Great plugin overall! I read your original paper, and it has created a bit of confusion for me as to how the Loss parameters work on the preset. In your original paper, you describe the normal operating parameters of the TC-260 as follows:
However, when I load up your TC-260 preset, which I presume to be the most accurate modeling parameters to the original machine you worked with, the Loss parameters are
This plugin setting sounds great, but the analogue purist in me wants to ramp the thickness up to 35 microns and run the tape speed down to 7.5 ips to truly emulate your reported operating parameters. This, however, results in a heavily treble-cut sound that is much darker than what I believe tracks cut to 35 micron thick tape typically sound like. I could be wrong about this, as I have never had the opportunity to work with a real TC-260, but I would appreciate some clarification for how these controls work with respect to the physical modeling of the device.
For example, is the tape thickness setting modeling absolute thickness (i.e. 4 microns emulates 4 micron thick tape) or relative thickness from a baseline such as 35 microns (i.e. 4 microns emulates 39 micron thick tape)? This information would be incredibly useful to know, as I believe it might be fun to try to use the parameters you've created to emulate other types of tape machines, such as the Fostex R8.
