Drupal Coder vs Themer: The ultimate DrupalCon trailer?

Campbell Vertesi and Adam Juran are at the top of their game when it comes to coding and theming Drupal. They're also deeply involved in and shaped by their study of martial arts. That's what makes this DrupalCon trailer so very good: they make an analogy for working with Drupal that pits the coder vs the themer, and it becomes the basis of their whole DrupalCon session. This trailer (which is meant to get butts into seats next week in Amsterdam), is a tribute to B-grade Kung Fu movies, and is true to Drupal's tradition of approaching technology with a good dose of levity and humor. I, for one, really enjoyed working with Campbell and Adam while shooting this, and am looking forward to their session.

Open Source Music - Video from the DrupalCon Session

The "Bach to the Future" session at DrupalCon Prague was fun, and a success, I think. Together with my wife, pianist Kimiko Ishizaka, I presented the concept of open source music, showed how Drupal is enabling the MuseScore project to thrive and treat musical scores as semantic content, and gave a demonstration showing the cool things you can do with digital scores and live performances. Kimiko Ishizaka played a selection of pieces from the Well-Tempered Clavier on the venue's Steinway grand piano, and it was a lovely way to start the final day of DrupalCon.

Tags:

Drupal Planet

Music

Open Source Bach. It was an idea so simple yet completely audacious that it made the front pages of BoingBoing and Slashdot, was written about in Wired, The New Yorker, F.A.Z., Spiegel, La Stampa, and brought together a diverse team that included a publisher, a piano manufacturer, and a notation software company. At the center of it all was pianist Kimiko Ishizaka, my wife and muse.

Tags:

Music

Drupal Planet

Drupal

Kimiko Ishizaka

The ABC's of DrupalCon Munich

DrupalCon Munich is a few weeks past but today was the first day I was fully recovered, and by "fully recovered" I mean all of the red toe-nail polish was finally gone. Through various twists and turns I ended up being part of five sessions this year, including the highlights of being onstage with Acquia's Jim Shaw talking about Enterprise Sales, and announcing the entire product strategy for the Commerce Guys (which will be reprised as a webinar soon). Those were certainly stressful sessions with high expectations and a lot riding on me to perform well.

But in the end, nothing took quite as much preparation and hard work as the opening session - the 6th iteration of a tradition started at DrupalCon San Francisco - where jam (aka horncologne aka some name that only his mother calls him) and I get on stage at a stupidly early morning hour and use music and cheap theatrical tricks to convince people they didn't come to the wrong conference.

So, for posterity's sake, here's the video of this year's session, featuring the debut apperance of "Roberta", the Beautiful Blonde Baviarian with a Beard. After utilizing Alphorns, Accordions, Dirndls, Lederhosen, Schuhplattler, Yodeling, and the amazing soundtrack from the recently released film "Bavaria", we're going to need some new ideas if this show is going to play Portland next year! (video after the break)
