<p><a href="http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/">Randy Pausch</a> is the computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. This book is based on his last lecture given to his students but written for his family. I've made it a habit of mine to read one chapter a night before I go to bed. This book inspires the living just as much as it inspires the dying. If you have no desire to read the book then do yourself a favor and at least watch the video.</p>

The title is a phonetic transcription of the English title. Now, as many of you may know, the Japanese have a sound that falls directly between English "L" and "R", and makes it simultaneously impossible for most Japanese to say either, and equally impossible for them to tell the difference between them in phonetic transcriptions. <p>When I first met <a href="http://www.buytaert.net/" title="Dries' homepage">Dries Buytaert</a>, in <a f="http://drupal.org/developer-sprint-2005" hre="" title="Drupal code sprint in Antwerp, 2005">February in Antwerp</a>, we discussed the need for a book explaining how to use Drupal. We agreed that such a book would be a great asset to the many people who are becoming interested in our great software. Since I had already decided that it was my goal to write a Drupal book, I expressed this to Dries. Soon after the conference, Dries was approached by <a href="http://blogs.apress.com/?author=176" title="Matt's Apress blog">Matt Wade</a>, an editor at <a href="http://www.apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=10031" title="Drupal book at Apress">Apress</a>, about writing 1/3 of a book about building online communities. The other 2/3 would discuss <a href="http://www.phpbb.com/" title="phpBB website">phpBB</a> and <a href="http://wordpress.org/" title="WordPress website">WordPress</a>, two other immensely popular projects that address different niches. As Dries was too busy with his studies to write a book, he introduced me to Matt. <a exec="" href="_a%20href%3d.html" http:="" link_code="ur2&tag=robshousenet-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F1590595629%2Fref%3Dpd_cmp_rvi_1_i%3Fn%3D283155"" obidos="" title="Drupal book on Amazon" www.amazon.com="">The result</a> was a project that lasted until October; writing the first book about Drupal. I knew that I would need lots of support, and therefore asked <a href="http://www.bryght.com/about/the-team/james" title="James Walker, Drupal Rockstar">James Walker</a> to be the technical editor. This turned out to be a very good move, as James is a "Drupal Rockstar" who always knows the smallest technical details, and has worked with many many clients and other people to know which parts of Drupal are hard to grasp, and where the hidden sticking points are. He helped me decide how to present the many concepts and capabilities that are not always intuitive.<br clear="all" /></p>
